Since becoming serious about cycling, I’ve found one of my great joys in life… The Shelby Farms Greenline.
Spanning 10.65 miles, the Greenline runs from the old Cordova Train Station in suburban Memphis to Tillman Street in the heart of the city. For long stretches, one can pedal along and forget one is in an urban area. Often surrounded by a canopy of trees, the lush summer greenness is a welcome respite from the world.
There are plans underway to connect the Greenline at Tillman to Overton Park via the Hampline. This will include a protected bike path across Sam Cooper Boulevard, one of the busiest thoroughfares in Memphis.
Already from Overton Park, there are numerous bike lanes feeding through to Midtown and Downtown Memphis. With just a bit of route planning and some hill training, one can ride from the outer suburbs across the Mississippi River to West Memphis, Arkansas and back.
The video above chronicles one of my recent rides down the Greenline. It was shot on a GoPro Hero 7+ mounted to the front of my bike and edited in Adobe Premiere Pro. Portions are sped up to shorten the total run time of the video. It slows down at each intersection and as I crossed the long bridge crossing the Wolf River.
Enjoy the ride… and hope to see you out there on the Greenline sometime.
